"The more favoured people are, socially and economically, the better their health”(Michael Marmot 2010)

Life expectancy is 3.7 years lower for men and 5.8 years lower for women in the most deprived areas of Craven than in the least deprived areas (based on the Slope Index of Inequality published on 5th January 2011)

Craven has a higher than national average number of people aged over 65 and an above average number of people living with a life limiting illness.

About 13.8% of Year 6 children are classified as obese., This puts a huge strain on our local health services. If no action is taken, the cost of treating illnesses that result from inequalities in the level of obesity alone, will rise from £2billion per year to over £5billion by 2025.

Survey Results (2014-2015)

  • ›95% generally felt happier
  • ›73% felt they now had more contact with local community
  • ›78%  felt they learnt ways to keep themselves healthy
  • ›88% felt they learnt ways to improve mental wellbeing
  • ›83% felt they had more self confidence
